Ontario: Strong interest continues in FIT and microFIT programs

Ontario Power Authority / OPA News / 17 February 2010

The Ontario Power Authority continues to receive applications to the Feed-in Tariff (FIT) and microFIT programs, showing continuing strong interest among Ontarians.

The FIT Program, for renewable energy generating projects above 10 kilowatts (kW), has now received more than 1,300 applications. The microFIT Program, for projects 10 kW or smaller, has received more than 4,400 applications.

The FIT Program, one of the cornerstones of the Green Energy Act, provides stable, guaranteed pricing to renewable energy producers of all sizes. It supports the province’s commitment to eliminate coal-fired generation by the end of 2014 – the single largest climate-change initiative in Canada. The first FIT projects are expected to generate in excess of $5 billion in investments in manufacturing, design, construction and engineering and lead to the creation of thousands of new jobs.

About 1,600 conditional microFIT contract offers have been sent to applicants. The first FIT contract offers are expected by the end of the first quarter.

A web-enabled teleconference on the FIT Program's domestic content requirements is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 25 at 10 a.m. For more details, click here.
