Screening: FLOW
Don't ignore World Water Day, Monday, March 22nd, but mark it by attending the showing of the excellent film, FLOW.
This film exposes the hardships brought on people around the world by the privatization of water delivery by huge corporations such as Suez, Vivendi and RWE AG, and by the exploitation of water aquifers by companies such as Nestles and Coke. Third World countries are being forced into privatization by the World Bank and IMF, even though it often results in their poor being cut off.
We will hear how in Canada there is no National Water Policy and how Canadian cities are being enticed into the privatization of their water delivery and waste water management. Hamilton tried it for 10 years. Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto have considered it. A Brockville councillor has suggested it.
We will also hear from Jane Lyster of the Health Unit, Jason Barlow of the Brockville Water Treatment Plant, and Tom Low a retired water engineer.
Is water a human right and public trust, or a commodity to be sold for profit to those who can afford it?
Location: St Lawrence College, Room 215. No charge.
Sponsor: Brockville Chapter of the Council of Canadians
