Trevor Andrews is hoping to reduce his electricity bill while taking advantage of a natural power source. And he isn't alone.

Andrews was one of roughly 75 people who attended a seminar on solar panel systems at the Yardmen Arena, organized by the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus.

One of eight such sessions held across the province, it sought to inform people about the benefits of solar power, how the Ontario Power Authority's FIT (feed-in tariff ) program works and how to maintain a system once it's installed.

"I've been interested in solar power for the past few years, but the systems are expensive," Andrews said. "I just want a few panels on my roof and I thought I could learn more here."

Andrews said the information provided by a Hydro One representative, an engineering specialist from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and a Swiss mechanical engineer with 18 years experience in solar power was helpful.
