The ELORIN 7th Annual Conference focuses on innovation, challenges and opportunities for building green. Join us as we explore how to achieve sustainability in existing and heritage buildings, repurposing and reusing non-traditional materials, innovative new building design in residential and commercial builds and the use of natural building products and techniques. As well, on the panel discussion on the Ontario Building Code we will feature a speaker from the BRE Centre for Innovative Construction Materials at the University of Bath, UK who will discuss the Code for Sustainable Homes in the UK, a new national standard for green building.

Keynote Speaker: Ian Pritchett of Lime Technology UK - "Better than Zero Carbon"

Ian Pritchett has nearly 20 years experience in making, selling and using lime based building products. By combining modern technology with long established and traditional lime based building products, Lime Technology has grown into the largest and most respected organization of its kind. Ian will discuss how their new products are helping homes and businessees in Britain achieve better then zero carbon footprints.

Keynote Speaker: Wayne Trusty of Athena Sustainable Materials Institute - "Life Cycle Assessment – Implications for design projects"

The use of LCA to determine the embodied environmental effect of materials, rather than relying on singular material properties such as recycled content or distances traveled after the point of manufacture is a key aspect of moving toward more performance based outcomes in sustainable design. Mr. Trusy will also discuss current LCA-based software tools such as the ATHENA Impact Estimator (IE), which evaluates whole buildings and assemblies.

Other speakers include
Jim Nash, President - Enviroshake,
Tina Therrien, Owner/Builder – Camel’s Back Construction,
Marianne Berube, Ontario Executive Director, WoodWORKS/Canadian Wood Council,
Sean Fraser, CAHP, Conservation Services - Ontario Heritage Trust
