WHAT: Paul Lowe, ReDriven Power Inc: 2 - 20 kw wind turbines

WHERE: Brockville Public Library, 23 Buell Street

Wind turbines are getting a lot of attention these days as a clean form of renewable energy. People driving along the 401 see the blades slowly turning on their high towers and wonder whether a wind turbine would be a practical means of generating electricity for their home or business. They also want to know what impact the equipment might have on their health or the local ecology.

The Brockville Climate Action Group has invited Paul Lowe, of ReDriven Power Inc., based in the nearby village of Iroquois, to give a public presentation about wind power at its monthly meeting this Saturday, August 22, at 2 p.m. in the Brockville Public Library.

Lowe will discuss the turbines manufactured by ReDriven and sold all over North America. He’ll detail the turbines’ individual components, their footprint, the size of lot needed for turbines ranging from 60 to 120 feet high (although there is a smaller one), kilowatts produced, and methods for remote control and monitoring.

He’ll discuss average wind speeds in this area and their implications for wind power locally. He can also address concerns people have about the turbines’ effects on people’s health and the local ecology.
